ireland serious about road safety?
2006/7/10
in a year where already more than 200 people have been killed on irish roads and the fiasco over breath tests, this happens:
The driver of a hearse that was leading a funeral cortege in Co. Donegal was fined for speeding during the week. He was driving at nearly 70km an hour in a 50km zone and several of the vehicles carrying mourners were also given speeding tickets. It didn’t take long for local TD Minister for Agriculture and Food Mary Coughlan to successfully intervene and have the prosecutions cancelled. It was discovered that the establishment of the temporary speed limit on a stretch of road between Donegal town and Kilcar did not meet legal requirements. The cortege had travelled from Letterkenny Hospital.
